Interior, Bureau of Indian Affairs MAINTENANCE WORKER LEADER in Eagle Butte, South Dakota

Summary This position is located with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Superintendent - Cheyenne River Agency, Facilities Management, in Eagle Butte, South Dakota. NOTE: TRAVEL AND RELOCATION EXPENSES WILL NOT BE AUTHORIZED. ANY RELOCATION EXPENSES ASSOCIATED WITH REPORTING FOR DUTY WILL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE SELECTED EMPLOYEE. Responsibilities Responsible for maintaining and operating the agency buildings including Facility Management, Land Operations, Roads, Main Agency Building, Social Services, government furnished housing, and the Detention Center. * Primary purpose of this position is to serve as a working leader for the Maintenance Department. * Provide repair, maintenance and preventative maintenance to the facilities and equipment including heating systems, electrical systems and plumbing systems located at the Agency. * Heating: Services and repairs the oil-fired furnaces with may call for partial or complete disassembly of the unit or accessories. * Electrical: Replaces, repairs, or installs light fixtures of all types. * Plumbing: Repairs and installs faucets, sinks, toilets, showers, bathtubs, water lines and sewer lines, valves, traps, water heaters. * Concrete, Carpentry and Painting. * Installs, repairs and/or replaces all necessary parts in vehicles used by the agency. * Complete follow up reviews of individual employee assigned work for completion and ensure work meets identified code. * Will be the agencies designated Safety Officer and will attain/maintain necessary certifications. * Generate work orders on Maximo or web-based "work order" and "preventative maintenance" programs. * Boiler Operator Certification; will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the agencies boilers. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualifications System for Trades and Labor Occupations (X-118C, Qualification Standard Handbook) will be used in determining applicants' qualifications. There is no specific length of training or experience required; however, you must be able to demonstrate through the experience shown in your written resume and your responses to the Occupational Questionnaire that you possess the competencies to perform the duties of this position without more than normal supervision. Listed below are the JOB ELEMENTS you will be rated on: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE ABILITY TO USE AND MAINTAIN TOOLS AND OPERATE AND MAINTAIN EQUIPMENT AND MEASURING INSTRUMENTS KNOWLEDGE OF MATERIALS DEXTERITY AND SAFETY CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT - (SCREEN-OUT): Boiler Operator Certification: Incumbent must possess or obtain a boiler operator's certification from the Regional Boiler Program Manager (RBPM) or BIA Boiler Inspector-approved training facility, shall attend an 80-hour training class as well as pass a standard BIA, or BIA approved certification or qualifying exam, or possess a current state or city Boiler Operator's License before reporting for employment. Shall have at least two (2) years experience. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Merit Promotion candidates must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the announcement closing date. Preference in filling vacancies is given to qualified Indian candidates in accordance with the Indian Preference Act of 1934 (title 25, USC Section 472). TELEWORK: Indian Affairs has determined that the duties of the position are not suitable for telework under any circumstances.
