Facebook Data Protection Manager, Privacy in Pierre, South Dakota

Summary:

The Data Protection Office (DPO) advises Facebook on compliance with privacy and data protection regulations, monitors compliance, and reports directly to leadership and external stakeholders on the Company’s performance. The DPO advises and supports leadership on accountability and in setting standards needed to ensure that Facebook meets its data protection legal and regulatory obligations. The organization also implements company policies and standards, and verifies their efficacy to leadership.

The Data Integrity pillar within the DPO advises and supports management in the implementation of company privacy and data protection standards, including process and design operations, monitoring and verification, as well as rights management. The mission of the team is to regularly assess privacy risks and to conduct deep-dive privacy reviews of key privacy topics.

Facebook is seeking a Data Protection Manager, Privacy, who will lead a team of privacy professionals in the Office of the Data Protection Office (DPO), Data Integrity.

Required Skills:

  1. Own end-to-end delivery of ODPO Reviews including scoping the review, understanding and communicating with relevant stakeholders, performing due diligence to refine inquiries, conducting fieldwork of widely varied nature, creating reports, aligning with business stakeholders on a remediation plan, and tracking execution of remediations

  2. Assist with or drive the ODPO’s semi-annual assessment of privacy risks

  3. Manage a team of privacy professionals

  4. Contribute to the success of the ODPO through various ad hoc projects, working groups, training delivery and evangelism

  5. Commission and manage internal and external experts, including outside counsel, to provide analysis and research to support development of ODPO advice or positions

  6. Create and present advice, with limited supervision, to the highest standards of clarity, objectivity and reasoning, ensuring concise and plain language that can be easily understood by both lawyers and non-lawyers

  7. dissect complex and ambiguous topics about the intersection of law, policy, technology, operations and data ethics

  8. Maintain up-to-date reporting, and deliver updates to leadership

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Eight or more years of work experience, largely related to privacy and data protection, potentially at a law firm, a consultancy, or another technology company

  2. Interpersonal skills and a commitment to professionalism and collegiality

  3. Experience managing a high-performing team

  4. Knowledge of or interest in emerging technologies and devices

  5. Knowledge of or interest in privacy and data protection concerns

  6. Experience working collaboratively with cross-functional teams

  7. Proven focus on multi-tasking, details, and organizational skills

  8. Attention to detail and drafting experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience in operational data protection and/or privacy audit, mix of operational experience (running large, cross-functional projects in multinational firms), privacy experience (familiarity with GDPR) and technical familiarity (comfort discussing the basics of data processing technologies)

  2. Hands-on experience with the GDPR, as well as other global privacy laws, regulations, and industry guidelines, especially including those relevant to social media and Internet companies

  3. Experience conducting impactful reviews (audits, process evaluations, gap assessments, due diligence, six sigma, etc.)

  4. Certifications: CIPP/E, CIPM, CIPT
