UMB’s mortgage team was established in 2016, when the decision to bring the mortgage product back in-house. UMB’s mortgage team has a wealth of knowledge due to it being comprised of many associates who have been in the mortgage field for 10 or more years. UMB’s mortgage team has a sales team and an operational team. Within the operational team there is a Mortgage Underwriter.

The Mortgage Underwriter is responsible for the timely and accurate evaluation and approval/denial of loan applications according to FNMA/FHLMC/FHA/VA/USDA and investor guidelines.

Whether someone has a question about a process or needs help getting something completed, the mortgage operations team continuously strives to offer the Unparalleled Customer experience to our clients by taking a team collaborative approach to ensure deadlines and client expectations are met all the way to when our client has the keys in their hands to their new home.

How you’ll spend your time:

  • Assessing the risk of a loan and make a credit decision based on the quality of the data in the loan file.

  • Reviewing and ensuring data integrity to confirm accuracy of automated underwriting findings.

  • Applying all agency and government guidelines, aggregator requirements and federal regulations to the decision process to ensure loan salability.

  • Analyzing the employment profile, credit strength, property characteristics and all other information pertinent to the credit decision process on each application.

  • Communicating required conditions and assisting with general questions and options in structuring loans to meet guidelines.

  • Providing clear communication to the mortgage team regarding upcoming regulatory and industry changes that would affect the underwriting of loans.

  • Satisfying all suspense items timely relating to underwriting errors.

  • May train and help mentor other operations personnel when needed.

  • Perform other duties as required.

  • You have completed a bachelor’s degree or have equivalent experience.

  • You have 3 or more years of relevant underwriting experience in the Mortgage industry.

  • You are DE (Direct Endorsement) and SAR (VA Staff Appraisal Review) certified.

The pay range for a candidate selected for this position who is based in Colorado is typically $47,145 to $78,645 annually. The selected candidate’s actual pay will be based on various factors, including but not limited to work location, qualifications, and experience, so the actual starting pay for the selected candidate may be above or below this range. The successful candidate will also be eligible to participate in one or more incentive plans based on company and individual performance.
