Facebook Agile Silicon Team (FAST) focuses on delivering Facebook's vision through Augmented Reality (AR). Compute power requirements of Augmented Reality require custom silicon. FAST is driving the state of the art forward with breakthrough work in computer vision, machine learning, mixed reality, graphics, displays, and new ways to map the human body. Our chips will enable AR devices where our real and virtual world will mix and match throughout the day. We believe the only way to achieve our goals is to look at the entire stack, from transistor, through architecture to firmware and algorithms.FAST is looking for a Silicon Performance Architecture Intern who will work with a world-class group of engineers. The ideal candidate will understand the performance tradeoffs for various compute, memory and interconnect components in the context of heterogeneous systems with traditional CPU, GPU components and custom accelerators.
Carry out performance & power architecture exploration through detailed modeling and analysis of custom compute components, shared interconnect in a heterogeneous multi-agent system and/or shared cache/memory subsystem in a heterogeneous multi-agent system
Explore new methodologies to rapidly explore a vast design space from a performance/power standpoint
Understand the tradeoffs between general purpose and custom compute mechanisms
Understand the data flow paths, working set sizes, access patterns of different general purpose vs. custom compute components
QoS, latency and throughput analysis in heterogeneous platforms with multiple agents with competing resource requirements
Add support for measuring power in the model
Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a PhD degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field
1+ years experience in software design with C++
1+ years experience in performance modeling and architectural exploration methodologies
Intent to return to degree-program after the completion of the internship/co-op
Experience in tackling and solving challenging performance bottlenecks
Experience in the analysis and exploration of heterogeneous multi-agent platforms
Interpersonal experience: cross-group and cross-culture collaboration
