Weekly Hours: 40.00
Develops, evaluates, and implements new tests, methodologies, or products for the laboratory under the intellectual and scientific guidance of laboratory directors. Assumes responsibility for improvement of existing methods or implementation of new technology of proven validity. Maintains complete and accurate documentation of data generated and work performed. Helps in organizing new method validation data, preparation of data for publication and peer review, and participates in formal presentations. Aids in the investigation, installation, evaluation, and purchase of laboratory equipment, instrumentation, computer software and hardware, new reagent systems, and other specialty items. Participates in the training of laboratory staff, residents, and students in principles of methods and applications within the laboratory. Assists and mentors other Clinical Staff Scientists or Clinical Lab staff when needed in the performance of their duties. May be required to become competent on select clinical assays to fill in at the clinical laboratory bench when needed.
Must have demonstrated skills in leadership, communications, problem-solving and organization. Must be able to work independently and effectively with a variety of people at all levels both within and outside of Sanford Health. Must be highly organized, efficient, and capable of comprehending complex instructions and situations. Ability to manage several projects simultaneously, function independently and exercise judgment in decision-making
Sanford Medical Genetics Laboratory has a position open to join our clinical development team of scientists. Clinical Scientists help design, develop, and validate new clinical tests that may help physicians diagnose conditions in their patients. This is an exciting field that aims to bring research assays into a clinical setting.
Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or other relevant science with 4 years of clinical and/or research laboratory experience.
Certification in MLS, MB, SMB by ASCP desired but not required.
Four years of relevant laboratory experience; or a Master's degree from an accredited institution in chemical, physical, biological, clinical laboratory science or medical technology and two years of relevant laboratory experience.
Extensive molecular test design and development experience, specifically including, but not limited to, Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) technique, quantitative reverse transcription - polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) assays, fragment analysis, next generation sequencing (NGS), Sanger sequencing, and gene expression assays; assay development experience in a clinical lab setting is desirable but not required.
Experience with accreditation agencies, including College of American Pathologists (CAP/NYS), etc. is desirable.
