U.S. Bank Credit Risk Officer – Corporate & Commercial Banking in Sioux Falls, South Dakota

We are seeking a Credit Risk Officer for Corporate and Commercial Credit Risk Management. (Corporate, Commercial, Community, CRE), and Wealth Management. This executive will lead the establishment and monitoring of credit risk limits that define the bank’s risk appetite, credit risk reporting used throughout the bank to identify and assess credit risk, frequent strategic interaction and influence with first line of defense business and risk personnel, development, approval and oversight of bank-wide credit policy. This position is an opportunity to monitor external and emerging risks and assessing impact on the bank’s credit portfolios. This person will also partner with regulatory and internal oversight leadership to ensure credit practices align with expectations.

The Credit Risk Officer will also have managerial oversight of USB real estate appraisal (RETECHS) and collateral exam monitoring, in addition to Credit Loan Review. Loan Review independently assesses the credit process quality of over 50 commercial lending portfolios. The incumbent is also responsible for ensuring sound quality assurance processes exist in both the first and second lines of defense. The position will also oversee the credit projection process for identifying and forecast changes in adversely-rated credits, NPAs and credit losses, as well as administration of the bank’s problem credit monitoring process (PCMR).


Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience

  • 15 or more years of experience in an applicable risk management environment

  • 10 years of management experience

  • Applicable certifications

Preferred Skills/Experience

  • Considerable knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, financial services, and regulatory trends that

impact their assigned line of business

-Considerable knowledge of the business line’s operations, products/services, systems, and associated


  • Expert knowledge of Risk/Compliance/Audit competencies

  • Ability to manage job scope and complexity of assigned business at the Line of Business level

  • Strong leadership and management skills of processes, projects and people

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and negotiation skills

  • Proficient computer skills, especially Microsoft Office applications
