Seeds of Change is a non-profit with an international focus that operates under the umbrella of POET. It originated from the vision of Jeff Broin, the founder and CEO of POET, and his family after a trip to Kenya. It now encompasses three core missions: Mission Hope supports a girls’ school and a school for the deaf to provide education for vulnerable youth in Kenya. Mission Grow works with local partners in Kenya to educate farmers in simple, yet effective agricultural practices. Mission Breathe helps to promote and provide biofuel cook stoves that are a safer, healthier and more economical alternative to solid fuels in developing countries. All missions work to empower people in developing countries to use their own resources to create practical, sustainable solutions for a brighter future.

JOB SUMMARY

The Seeds of Change Development Coordinator will work in cooperation with the Seeds of Change Director to manage and improve donor relations, generate increased funding from new and existing sources, and work continuously to increase the visibility and viability of the non-profit organization. The Seeds of Change Fundraiser will focus primarily on outreach to large, individual donors and secondarily on general outreach for procuring regular, annual gifts.

A TYPICAL DAY COULD INCLUDE:

  • Report to and strategize with the Seeds of Change Chairman and Board of Director.

  • Work collaboratively with the Seeds of Change Director to manage day-to-day operations of Seeds of Change fundraising activities.

  • Establish and assist in achieving Seeds of Change donor and fundraising goals.

  • Continue to develop Seeds of Change donor base and fundraising strategies.

  • Assist in development of effective and regular communication with current and potential donors.

  • Partner with the Seeds of Change Director and related committees to organize and execute on annual fundraising events.

  • Create and maintain detailed and accurate donor records.

  • Conduct research, create reports and organize presentations.

  • Establish working relationships with a variety of constituencies and multiple companies within POET.

  • Maintain a high level of customer service and friendly atmosphere.

  • Be passionate about the missions and objectives of the organization.

  • Foster a culture of safe behavior and environmental compliance at all times.

  • Maintain a team environment at all times and champion POET and Seeds of Change in the community.

STRENGTHS OF A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Business or a related field.

  • 3+ years fundraising experience.

  • Qualify as a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) or be willing to work toward certification.

  • Current member or willing to become a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP).

  • Ability to socialize and interact with Senior Executives, Legal and Accounting professionals, all POET team members, and others in professional and social settings.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Public speaking experience.

  • Highly self-motivated and able to exercise discretion, initiative, and independent judgment in making sound decisions and problem resolution.

  • Superb prioritization and organizational skills, attention to detail, the ability to multi-task, and the ability to work with multiple constituencies.

  • You know the basics of Microsoft Office Suite. You’re capable of learning new programs.

BONUS POINTS:

  • 2+ years fundraising experience within a non-profit organization.

  • Grant writing and planned giving experience and/or knowledge.

  • Experience with a donor management database or software program.
