Sweetman Const. Co. Equipment Operator - Quarry in Sioux Falls, South Dakota

This position starts out at $16.15 and up, depending on experience.


Operate one or more types of heavy equipment used in quarry operations to excavate, move and grade earth or to scoop, lift and transport rock, sand and gravel to and from storage or processing areas, to feed conveyors, hoppers, chutes, rail cars, or trucks.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Operating large-scale power equipment, such as front-end loaders.

  • Controlling machines and processes using either control mechanisms or direct physical activity.

  • Inspecting equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.

  • Lubricating, adjusting, or repairing machinery and replace parts.

  • Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Valid driver's license preferred.


  • Hours may vary. Early morning / late days.

  • Some Saturday shifts may be required.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to have the following physical abilities:

  • Use hands to fingers to quickly and repeatedly adjust equipment controls to exact positions.

  • Coordinate two or more limbs (for example, two arms, two legs, or one leg and one arm).

  • Good vision, both up close and at a distance, color vision, peripheral vision, spatial orientation, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

  • Climb ladder to access operator’s cab.

The employee is occasionally required to:

  • Stand or walk.

  • Climb or balance.

  • Stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

  • Talk or hear.

  • Lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.

Certain job tasks may require you to wear a half mask respirator in which you will need to meet the osha guidelines based on 1910.134(g)(1)(i).

Work Environment

The work environment is a typical shop environment that includes exposure to:

  • Wet and/or humid conditions.

  • Moving mechanical parts

  • All types of weather, including rain, wind and extreme temperatures.

  • Loud noise.

The employee is occasionally exposed to:

  • High, precarious places.

  • Fumes or airborne particles.

  • Toxic or caustic chemicals.
