POET Logistics Intern in Sioux Falls, South Dakota

ABOUT POET NUTRITION

In addition to creating biofuels at POET, we produce other valuable goods that we call co-products. These co-products include five million tons of our Dakota Gold distillers grain animal feed and 600 million pounds of our Voila corn oil. It is our role at POET Nutrition to market these high quality products and provide the lowest cost logistics solutions for our customers.

JOB SUMMARY

The Logistics Intern will work with the Commercial Team to coordinate transportation of POET Nutrition co-products to domestic and international customers, trans-loads and storage facilities. This role works with vendors and transportation companies to ensure co-products reach the appropriate destinations in a timely and cost-effective manner.

A TYPICAL DAY:

  • Communicate effectively with POET Nutrition team members and customers.

  • Negotiate to reduce freight costs or work to find more efficient ways of transportation.

  • Monitor shipments to ensure co-product integrity.

  • Work with POET Nutrition Merchandisers to fulfill shipping needs.

  • Provide benchmarking, supply chain & business process analysis to the Commercial Team.

  • Work with the Business Analysts to optimize rail fleet management & delivered truck performance.

  • Maintain records & prepare documentation for truck/rail shipments on a daily basis.

  • Maintain documentation on all motor carriers, including valid insurance certificates, common carrier authority and carrier agreements.

  • Assist in the administration of POET’s rail detention & repair programs.

  • Determine applicable truck/rail freight rates & fuel surcharges for co-Product shipments.

  • Schedule motor carriers to deliver loads & confirm deliveries with customers.

  • Communicate with the accounting team to resolve any invoice-related truck transportation issues.

  • Foster a culture of safe behavior and environmental compliance at all times.

  • Maintain a team environment at all times and champion POET in the community.

THIS JOB MAY BE FOR YOU IF…

  • College graduate, or entering Senior year of College. Logistics/Transportation or Economics/Business major preferred.

  • Interest in research, analytics and project management.

  • Knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite and the ability and willingness to learn new software applications.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills as well as the ability to adapt to change.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment & manage conflict.

  • Communication skills and most importantly, the ability to work well in a team.
