Job Description

KBR , supporting the MFLEETS program, is seeking a Mid to Senior level Systems Administrator who will manage in-house computer software systems and network connections to ensure high Levels of availability and security of the supported business applications. The System Administrator operates, supervises, and manages the daily operation, security, and performance of information systems, including (but not limited to) networks, communication systems, databases, web servers, firewalls, and other technologies that require ongoing management.

The System Administrator demonstrates experience in a range of system administration functional areas, including applying security and update patches and other preventive maintenance; monitoring system performance; performing system performance tuning and trouble-shooting; optimizing system operation and resource utilization; performing system capacity analysis and planning; monitoring event and security logs; ensuring system integrity through regular back-ups, fail-safe, and recovery operations based on standard operating procedures; verifying that systems are in compliance with applicable IT security policies, procedures and guidelines; allocating and managing user accounts and privileges; and operating call logs and/or customer support functions.

The System Administrator should be conversant with and able to apply Federal standards and other guidelines related to the development or operation of secure systems.

Provides support implementing, configuring, coordinating, controlling, maintaining, troubleshooting and securing, usage monitoring and the development of specialized system procedures. Maintain operations of multi-user computer systems. Set up administrator and service accounts. Maintain system documentation and tune system performance. Install system-wide software and allocate mass storage space. Interact with users and may evaluate vendor products. Tasks may involve designing, installing, programming, troubleshooting and maintaining user’s hardware and software.

May implement business analysis and change management as needed. Responds to inquiries and requests from users for assistance as escalated through the support process. Identifies complex problems, troubleshoots and provides solutions to assist users. Interacts with vendors to resolve problems and stays abreast of new updates. Assists users in formulating requirements and advises on alternatives and implications. Coordinates with other units/teams to resolve problems as necessary. Analyzes, designs and implements plan for new systems or processes and may train users and entry-level staff. May support operations for a specific location or users/events from outside of the organization. Provides recommendations and implementation on optimizing standard processes as related to customer service. May assist with coordination of projects. Maintains a broad knowledge of technology, equipment and/or systems within field of work. Performs other duties as assigned

Education : Bachelors degree or Equivalent

Experience Levels: Mid 5-9 years

Senior 10 years Assists with the day-to-day operational maintenance, support, and upgrades for operating systems, workstations and servers. Under close supervision, performs basic software installations and upgrades to operating systems and layered software packages. Follows established IT policies and procedures. Monitors and tunes the system to achieve optimum performance levels. Ensures workstation/server data integrity by implementing standard software and hardware solutions. Ensures data/media recoverability by following a schedule of system backups and database archive operations. Complies with standard operating procedures. Conducts basic hardware and software audits of workstations and servers to ensure compliance with established standards, policies, and configuration guidelines Requires in-depth knowledge and experience.

Uses best practices and knowledge of internal or external business issues to improve Group’s products or services. Solves complex problems; takes a new perspective using existing solutions. Works independently, receives minimal guidance. Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience. Requires conceptual and practical expertise in own discipline and basic knowledge of related discipline. Has knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others; is aware of the competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market.

Has in-depth knowledge of DOD, Agency, and/or industry standards and IT requirements. Acts as a mentor or advisory resource for colleagues with less experience; may run small projects with manageable risks and resource requirements. Solves complex problems; takes a new perspective on existing solutions; exercises judgment based on the analysis of multiple sources of information. Impacts a range of customer, operational, project or service activities within own team and other related teams; works within broad Program/ Department/Section guidelines and policies. Explains difficult or sensitive information; works to build consensus.

May have formal, but limited, supervision of team members at a Department or project level to include verification of time cards, oversight of daily tasks/schedules and input into performance appraisals. May be the primary customer contact for assigned area of responsibility. Requires a college or university degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or the equivalent combination of education and experience. May be entry level for those with an advanced degree. Typically requires 4 to 7 years of relevant experience.

Candidates must have strong technical abilities, excellent communication skills, and a teamwork emphasis. Candidates must also be able to integrate into a highly-skilled Information Technology Team.
