We are currently accepting applications for the position of Nursery Manager. This position is an associate with breeding, biology and/or statistical education. Under the supervision of the Station Manager, organizes and trains the personnel in all operations pertaining to the preparation, planting, pollinating, data collection, harvest, shelling, and inventory recording of the corn nursery and nursery materials. Coordinate and prepare materials for the projects in Puerto Rico and other counter season nurseries.
Maintaining the highest level of confidentiality, customer service and professionalism.
Promote a positive image of the company and the research department.
Train and organize the research associates that work in the nursery.
Train seasonal employees and all others involved in the nursery operations must perform the work to meet designated quality standards.
Detailed records must be maintained on each step of the nursery operation.
Organize the inbreds and developmental material in storage and the inventory records that coincide with the physical inventory.
Selection of materials and lines in the nursery based on the criterion specified. This includes conventional, transgenic and specialty material
Work in Puerto Rico during the pollination period of the winter nursery. Ability to work independently with complete responsibility for specific aspects of the corn breeding program.
Assist the station manager with the analysis of data, preparation of data reports and preparation of lists for testing and or subsequent generations of development
Conceive and implement new technologies allowing breeding tasks to be done more efficiently.
Coordinate with the other station managers and nursery managers on the sharing of materials and on joint projects.
Other duties as required.
The number and diversity of tasks at the station requires that all full-time staff become actively involved in a variety of tasks and projects as determined necessary by Leadership. Training and effective utilization of seasonal employees is a responsibility of all full-time personnel. Duties and responsibilities may be revised as needed by Leadership.
B.S. degree in agricultural field preferred. University courses should include breeding, crop science, genetics, or statistics. Excellent planning and organization skills; ability to plan and manage multiple projects completely and accurately; attention to detail; problem analysis and problem resolution skills; strong interpersonal and communication skills required, working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint preferred) and common PC-based software.
Ability to work required hours; ability to lift 50 lbs.; ability to work in both field and station as required; some overnight travel
