Senior Technical Specialist
KBR is looking for a Senior Technical Specialist to join its talented team in Sioux Falls, South Dakota . KBR, headquartered in Houston, Texas, is the primary contractor to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) for performing work at the Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center ( http://eros.usgs.gov/ ) near Sioux Falls, SD ( http://www.siouxfalls.org at http://www.siouxfalls.org/ ).
The Information Management Services (IMS) section has a requirement for a person to manage the Digital Film Scanning Laboratory. This position will oversee the operation of a seasoned staff that operate high resolution flatbed photogrammetric scanners along with custom built roll to roll film and step and repeat scanners. This position has two requirements; 1) is the management of the Digital Laboratory, which includes the management of staff, personnel evaluations, timesheets, statistical reporting and documentation, presentations, and working with internal and external customers; and 2) ensuring the operation of three flatbed scanners, three roll to roll scanners, and twelve step and repeat scanners, which includes ensuring calibration and set-up, tracking of orders, monitoring production, working with Adobe and other image processing software, setting up new systems, calibration of digital cameras, programming ladder logic controllers, investigating new photographic scanning options / systems, and ensuring the quality of all products produced by the Digital Laboratory.
The position works under the direct supervision of the Information Management Operations Task Manager and may require night, weekend, and extended shift work.
Essential Job Functions:
Works on complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires and evaluations of intangible variables.
Exercises independent judgement in developing methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
Provides weekly, monthly, and adhoc reporting as required utilizing the Tableau reporting software
Regularly interacts with senior level USGS and TSSC management and engineering staffs on area(s) of specialty.
Responsible for ensuring staff are trained and proficient in the operation of the scanners and processes utilized by the Digital Laboratory
Understands the operation of digital scanners and cameras
Ensuring that all procedures / processes are documented
Works with software staff to develop new processes and improvements to current software used for image capture, image processing, order processing and transferring data from scanning systems to mass storage systems
Regularly looks at new technology in scanning / software and how it can be implemented to improve throughput and image / product quality
Performs personal management duties, which include the scheduling of staff, evaluations, staffing documentation, and staffing interfaces to handle problems
Performs duties to ship data to and receive from NARA as needed
Have excellent communication and interactive skills to work with staff and projects for new data sets and troubleshooting
Responsible for quality and accuracy of project deliverables. (reporting, digital productions, etc.)
Creates and delivers briefings to USGS and TSSC staff in area of specialty.

Special Skills/Requirements :
Knowledge of the LINEX software.
Working knowledge of the IMS Mass Storage Systems
Working knowledge and proficiency of the Tableau reporting
Working knowledge and proficiency of the IMS data ingest / data transfer operation and processes
Must be able to work extended shifts (nights / weekends)
Skill to use a personal computer and various office software packages
Personal skills to communicate in a professional manner with internal and external customers
Utilizes Microsoft PowerPoint to develop presentations and present them as required.
Skill to utilize a high-end digital cameras and scanners
Data Management/ Archive Management constructs/best practices.
Good vision, ability to differentiate color.
Proficient in the knowledge of the film / digital archive and storage requirements
May perform work with classified data which may require a “Top Secret” or “Secret” level clearance.
The candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a national agency check and background investigation after hire to obtain a badge for facility access and user accounts.
The candidate must have previous 3 years US residency.
