Indian Health Service Supervisory Nurse (DON) in Sisseton, South Dakota

Summary The Supervisory Clinical Nurse (DON) position is located at the Woodrow Wilson Keeble Memorial Health Care Center, Sisseton, South Dakota. The incumbent is responsible for providing leadership and management of the daily operations including maximizing human and material resources, quality standard of patient care and practice, maintenance and problem resolution of the Service Unit Nursing and Public Health Nursing programs. Incumbent reports to the CEO. Responsibilities Supervises the work of Supervisory Nurse positions, Nurse Specialist, administrative support and other nursing staff through subordinate supervisors. Participates with other supervisory nursing personnel in program planning; in continuous analysis and evaluation of nursing policies and procedures; in problem-solving matters; in committee activities as assigned and staff education activities. Plans nursing activities to facilitate efficient operation, smooth patient flow, and availability of nursing personnel, assurance that patient's needs are promptly and adequately met and required nursing services are rendered. Responsible for maintaining nursing accreditation standards for the health center. Requirements Conditions of Employment Must pass pre-employment examination. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Education, GS-0610-12, Supervisory Nurse (DON) In order to qualify for this position, you must meet the Basic Requirements for a nurse position. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. A. I have successfully completed a graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program. (You must provide copy of transcripts with your resume). B. I am currently enrolled in a professional nursing program and expect to complete the qualifying education within 9 months. (You must provide documentation from the professional program to support your expected completion date.) C. I do not have the education as described above. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Basic Requirements for the GS-0610-12, Supervisory Nurse (DON) From the descriptions below, select the response that best describes your experience which demonstrates your ability to perform the work of this position at the GS-12. A. I have 1 year of specialized experience that has equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This specialized experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service as described in the vacancy announcement. Examples Include: perform the full spectrum of supervisory personnel management to ensure the implementation and oversight of quality nursing care; enforces all appropriate standards including but not limited to those of an applicable health care accreditation organization; assurance that patient's needs are adequately met and nursing services are rendered in accordance with current standards for nursing practice; collaborate with medical and nursing staff on nursing documentation, analysis, evaluation and program planning including development of staff education and skills competence activities. B. I do not meet the experience as described above. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level.
